In phases, and at each phase you decide.
A custom project lasts months. We split it into phases, each with a date, and at the end of each one there is a system running on your real data. We use AI on every project, with private services of our own and with the people at Neurally, the AI company we founded.
How does dotenv run a software project?
In phases, each with a date and at least two people on the project. The scope is reviewed at short intervals, in front of what is already built. Inside a phase the date does not move, the content does; at the end there is a system running on real data, and the next phase is decided on its numbers.
The phases of a custom project
01
First we design, on site
It starts with a call, free of charge. Then a visit to your site, to see how you work today and the shortcuts people have invented to fit the work into the day. From there we design a prototype you can click and test it with the people who will use the software, before writing the code.
02
In phases, with dates
Each phase has a date. At least two people work on every project, with written documentation, so the work goes on even when one of them is away.
03
An hour at short intervals
At short intervals we sit for an hour in front of what is already built, look at what has changed and put the priorities of the phase back in order.
04
A system that runs
Each phase delivers a system running on your real data, in the hands of whoever will use it.

How we use AI in software development
Extraction and analysis
Technical documentation, requirements and meeting transcripts: AI reads them and puts them in order for the team.
Development
It supports the team while it writes the code too. dotenv answers for what we release.
Client data
It only passes through private AI services of our own, never through external services.
Neurally
The people at Neurally, the AI company we founded, bring their expertise to the projects.
A custom project is built over months, one phase at a time.

Frequently asked questions
- Why is the scope reviewed at short intervals?
- Because in a custom project the scope is only partly known at the start. The documents describe the process as it should go, and people work with the habits and shortcuts they have built up: many of them only show once there is a prototype in hand.
- What do you need from the client?
- At the start a call, free of charge, and then a visit to your site. During the project, one person who can decide and an hour at short intervals to look together at what is already built.
- What happens at the end of a phase?
- You decide whether to go on, on the results of that phase. Code and environments stay yours; maintenance and further development are a separate agreement.
