GrUSP, an association that organises training events to encourage collaboration in the developer community, has created a code of conduct that defines the lifestyle and attitude expected at its gatherings. At the root of this code is participation: every person who is part of the community is welcome in the context of GrUSP, whose goal is to create pleasant and rewarding experiences.
The importance of respect and courtesy in the GrUSP code of conduct
Anyone who is involved in or takes part in the events of the GrUSP association has to show respect and courtesy. These are fundamental values in everyday life, but they become essential in the developer community, during the event and in every physical and virtual context in which people come together.
The short version of the code of conduct reads as follows: “GrUSP wants to provide a conference experience that is pleasant, inclusive, respectful of differences and free of harassment for every participant, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity or religion. No harassment of any kind, in any form, towards other people will be tolerated during our events.”
Principles of the GrUSP code of conduct
Below we list the principles that characterise the GrUSP code of conduct:
- Respect for experience and professional skills: all communications have to be appropriate so as to include people with different professional backgrounds.
- Respect for genders: the use of language or images that point to a sexist attitude is not accepted and is in no way permitted.
- Respect for diversity: kindness is encouraged and supported, bearing in mind that jokes that are racist, sexist or that might exclude someone in any way are not accepted.
- Intolerance of harassment: any offensive verbal comment relating to sex, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity or religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation and stalking are unwelcome to the whole community, which is committed to maintaining a decorum and a professionalism that are inclusive and respectful.
- Care with words: education in the use of words is promoted. Be careful about the words you choose. Remember that sexist, racist and other such jokes are offensive to those around you. Excessive swearing and offensive jokes are never appropriate.
Behaviour that conflicts with the principles of the GrUSP code of conduct is not tolerated, and anyone who fails to respect them may be removed from the event, even if it is a sponsor company.
For technical training dotenv provides a package of courses open to all its technical staff: this covers all of Grusp’s technical events, that is refresher courses on software development.
